Essaouira was once Morocco’s biggest port, and the workhorses of those generations were the traditional blue fishing boats.
Times have changed, although you can still see catches coming in and shipbuilders building and repairing these special vessels.
I think the Ranger Raptor, designed to carry people and cargo to get modern business done on land, fits in beautifully here, at the start of our final long off-road stage.
Rangers are part of our official relationship with the RNLI in the UK as well – something we in the Company are hugely proud of given the challenges the RNLI face on our behalf, every single day.

Sunset.
A quick change, and time for the technical presentation hosted by our Chairman, Steven Armstrong.
Then dinner, and catching up with Elisabeth and Florian, from the other employee pair.
We were all exhausted, sand-blasted (I swear sand poured out of my ear like a cartoon), and smiling from cheek to cheek – reflecting on our good fortune to be here at all but also on the experience of being in such an effortlessly capable vehicle in such exciting surroundings.
You know, we are still only on day one… stay tuned!

My buddy for this trip was the inimitable Filip, a Business Manager from Ford of Poland.
You get paired up at random on these trips I find, so you’re never quite sure how your personalities and priorities for the trip will combine.
I was so lucky in Spain to have a wonderful co-driver who took in all my excited demands to park the car in ‘just THIS field please’ to get the shots I wanted – would I still get to play with locations this time?
The die was cast pretty early on – the Ranger Raptors on our drive were available in two stunning colour ways, Ford Performance Blue and Conquer Grey (with optional Raptor decals), and we were both agreed we had the blue in mind for the first of our adventures.
The deep blue is simply stunning – of course it looks amazing in the Moroccan sun, but equally it would look at home back in the UK.
You also find blue in the stitching of the premium leather power seats, the interior leather details, and on the FOX Racing long-travel shocks.
So far so good – we set off in convoy, and that was that…
Or was it?
I couldn’t find my mobile phone.
What to do?
Would Filip let me go back to the airport for it, and drop out of the convoy? Would he forgive me for being an utter pain?
Of course he did…
By the time we picked my phone up from the airport car park floor (in my defence I had probably dropped it while pulling myself up into this hefty beast of a vehicle!) and returned, there was no convoy ahead, just donkeys.
Not a problem of course – with the route mapped into our Sat Nav (with ‘breadcrumb’ feature to leave a trail when exploring uncharted areas) it was time to play catch-up…

You never forget your first. Well this beautiful, shimmering, sometimes bright blue, sometimes a turquoise ocean greeny hue, was the very first car I’d ever driven abroad. The very first LHD car.
I stalled it, and I drove on the other side of the road, but I didn’t hit anything…
Here as promised are some arty detail shots of my favourite curves of the car.
My own car is a Titanium spec, and so I felt right at home. I’ve mentioned before how a 3dr isn’t suited for me as a shorty in terms of seatbelt shenanigans, but I was instantly at ease knowing that if I veered out of lane the lane keeping tech would alert me; if I went too fast or in the wrong gear, the car would gently give me a nudge, and that the blind spot sensors would get me out of any mirror flusters. The B&O Play system was the icing on the cake…
Driving the most lovely roads from Valladolid to our hotel in Valbuena de Duero was an absolute pleasure. In fact the only reason I preferred being a passenger in this little beauty was because that gave me more opportunity to scout out locations to make this gorgeous finish pop.
There are other bloggers who can tell you more about the technical specs of the car, I can only say how it made me feel… windy as it was, this selfie says it all…

A short post just to share a few of my favourite ‘posed’ shots from yesterday. To remind you we drove a Blue Wave Fiesta Titanium 1.5 Diesel. The colour changed with the light – blue, then turquoise-green. Lovely!
